Comet at Dogs Trust - West Calder

A Male tri-colour Crossbreed who is age 5 to 7 years old

Good With Dogs

Contact Shelter

Shelter Location: Bentyhead West Calder EH55 8LE

Likes and dislikes: Comet is a super dog who loves to explore on his walks, he likes to have a good root around in the long grass and sniff all the interesting smells. He's an intelligent boy who knows most of his basic commands and will happily show off in exchange for a few tasty biscuits. Comet is a gentle, shy guy who needs a little time to get to know you. He is a sensitive wee fellow who needs help to build his confidence.

Type of home needed: Comet would prefer a quiet home where he can relax and get to know his new owners slowly. Comet was originally a stray so needs a secure garden with people who have had dogs before. Comet has so much potential and just needs a family who can help him realise it.
Zeus

Zeus at German Shepherd Rescue Scotland

A Male Black and tan Dog who is age Unknown

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Pet Location: Edinburgh

Zeus is a lovely young dog that will need someone with a lot of understanding of the breed and experience, he is not a dog for a first time shepherd owner. He has good basic commands in the house and has had one to one training, this will have to be kept up. He's a nervous boy, so will only be re-homed to a rural home.

Zeus is not a suitable dog for a family with children. He has never lived with another dog and will try and attack them until they turn on him and then he is submissive towards them. Out on the lead he will lunge at people and will grab their arm. There has been an incident with a member of the public rescue will give full details of that.

Zeus is quick to learn and will do anything for a treat, he just needs an owner with confidence who will take charge of Zeus and allow him to relax and enjoy being a puppy.

Zeus is in the Edinburgh area and any interested adopter will be required to spend a lot of time visiting him at the kennels to build up a bond. He is a beautiful dog who will need time and patience, but is still young enough to work with.

Robbie at Dogs Trust - Glasgow

A Male Black and white Border Collie Cross who is age 8+

Contact Shelter

Shelter Location: 315 Hamilton Road Uddingston Glasgow G71 7SL

Likes and dislikes:

Robbie loves to play ball games and learn new things. Robbie is nervous in new situations and takes his time to get to know people.

Type of home needed:

Robbie can live with children who are 16 years old or over. He would prefer a quiet household to settle into with someone who has experience of owning collies. He needs a secure garden to run around and get some time to play off lead. A home with calm, quiet areas to walk in would also benefit him.

More about me:

Robbie would need several meets at the centre to build a relationship before going to his new home.

Minstrel at Greyhound Awareness League

A Male Black Lurcher who is age ~2

Good With Children Not Good With Other Pets Not Good With Dogs

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Pet Location: Kennels

Minstrel is a lurcher, who is approximately two years old and is a gorgeous, affectionate and playful boy. In the home environment he is calm and relaxed. He loves cuddles and is fully housetrained.

Minstrel has had some basic training in the past but has also taken to clicker training with enthusiasm! He loves to interact with people, although he can be a little shy around men initially, and responds well to praise and encouragement. Minstrel bonds strongly with people and he does have some mild separation issues but these could be improved on greatly within a home environment.

We don’t think that Minstrel has had the opportunity to learn about things that he may encounter outside of the home environment and as a result finds this stressful and is not comfortable with other dogs. Minstrel would have to be the only dog in the home and he does not like cats.

Minstrel needs a special home with someone understanding who would take the time to help him gain confidence, to settle and enable him to carry on with his training plan; this would be fully supported by a Canine Behaviourist who currently is working with him. This is what she has to say about him;

‘Minstrel is a lovely boy who needs a calm environment to improve his confidence and to continue with his training. He took to agility and clicker training instantly and is improving greatly on his impulse control. Anyone who considers taking him into their home would see that with patience and understanding he has huge potential’.

Poppie

Poppie at Sunny Harbour Cat & Kitten Rescue

A Female Tabby Domestic short-hair who is age 5 to 6 months (kitten)

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Shelter Location: 70 Bank Street Lochgelly Fife KY5 9QN

I would like to introduce you to our dear little Poppie. She is a lovely, affectionate and boisterous little kitten of 5 to 6 months old who has found herself at Sunny Harbour Cat Rescue through no fault of her own.

She has settled into life at Sunny Harbour easily and although not a huge fan of her fellow residents she doesn’t let it put her off her stride and she will play all day and all night, should the urge take her.
image

Her favourite toys are her ping pong balls, mice and her purple Wubba and its not uncommon to have just cleaned out her pen and come back 5 minutes later to find she has turned everything upside down and all around!

This little girl loves to climb and explore and goes crazy for some interactive play in the form of a feather tickler or laser pen.

Ideally we are looking for a fun loving cat orientated person(s) who would like to add Poppie to their family. Having always lived indoors our preference is for this to continue and prior thought, imagination and enthusiasm given to meeting her needs in this environment.

We are as always happy to advise and provide ideas.

Due to poppies rather exuberant personality she can charge around quite fast not looking where she is going so for that reason we feel she would be better around older children 8yrs +, preferably used to cats.

Poppie is very much overflowing with the joys of life and she is quite the comic and will certainly make you smile every day.

It would be good for her to have some company through the day so couples doing shift work or people working from home sometimes would be ideal for our little girl.

Poppie has been spayed and will have at least started her vaccinations and be treated for fleas & worms and microchipped on leaving Sunny Harbour Cat Rescue.

If you feel you could offer Poppie the stimulating home she deserves then please do send us a Sunny Harbour's adoption application form via our website. Please note your interest in Poppie.

A Male Dog who is age: 5

Not Good With Other Pets Not Good With Dogs

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Shelter Location: South Lanarkshire

Harry is in rescue through no fault of his own and is in need of an experienced foster home.

He's approx 5 years old and is a very big and bouncy lad and needs someone to work on his basis obedience and help him to de-stress through calm and relaxed play and learning.

He can be reactive to other dogs so would need to be in an only dog home and he does not like cats either. It might be with time that he can encouraged to be around dogs socially but this is something that will need to be fully assessed and worked on.

He does also need a home with children over the age of 12 - this is purely due to his size and bounciness. He would also benefit from a quiet home with someone at home as much as possible and with a with secure garden.

We will be offering full behaviour support for Harry as he is geniunely lovely lad who just needs the right guidance. We also cover all costs for fosterers including all food, equipment and any vet costs incurred.

He is also fully vaccinated, microchipped and neutered.

If you think you could give Harry the help and love he needs please fill out an application form and we will get in touch.

CLARA at Staffie Smiles Rescue

Not Good With Children Good With Dogs

Shelter Location: Various Locations

CLARA
2-3yrs approx
Spayed, vaccinated & chipped
Good with dogs- yes
Good with kids- yes
Good with cats- untested

Clara is a very dinky girl with lots to offer, this is what her foster mum has to say about her...

Clara came to me a week ago very withdrawn and generally unhappy girl, not trusting anyone or anything around her. I had to build her a "den" to help her feel more secure for sleeping as she looked generally lost and confused being here. She came to me with a few issues and I have been helping her with those. She would not allow me to tickle her belly on the first couple of days obviously feeling insecure. As the days went on she has learned to trust me and has bonded with me brilliantly. She has issues with pulling and shadow chasing. We are working on both of these with great success having already stopped the shadow chasing in the house and working on this in the garden.
Her pulling on a lead was quite bad when I first got her but with perseverance and a good harness we are getting there. She is now more likely to walk to heel or just in front of my without pulling but does still try her luck now and again and still has to be reminded of this.
She is a loving dog full of kisses and cuddles. She comes in from the garden frequently to check I am here and just to give me a quick lick or a kiss then off she goes again. Clara loves to be outside and is quite happy to play on her own or with company. she likes a bit of sunbathing but due to her colour does need suncream applied.
Clara is totally house trained and will come tell you when she wants to go out. She will give you paw when asked (both of them), she will sit when requested in the house. We are still working on this outside the house. Clara knows sit, paw, stay, wait, come, heel commands.
Clara has a tendency to try and charge through the door before you. I have corrected this at the front door, she will now wait until you tell her, the back door we are still working on, I am getting her to sit at the door and wait for me to open it fully before she goes out.
She is really good in the car, with a car seatbelt on she just loves to look around at what is going on outside. Clara will wait for you to open the car door and tell her to come out before she does so.
Clara is strong willed and will need something that is firm with her, but also kind with her as she has had a bad start to life. Clara seems to love children as always wants to go up to them when we are on walks when approached by the kids outside she allows them to pet her and responds well. Clara has walked passed without incident cats that have been sitting on a doorstep but did want to chase one when it ran out from under a car so not sure about cats.
Clara is good with other dogs and seems to want to interact with them on any occasion that presents itself and I feel she would benefit from being around a well trained dog to be able to learn further, although Clara would also thrive in a one dog family as well. Clara can be vocal when she doesn't get her own way but by just ignoring this she has learnt in just over a week that she doesn't get what she wants when she does this and is always rewarded when she is quiet.
I have played with Clara with a ball and squeaky toys. Clara is fine with these, she will bring a toy to you but as yet will not give you that toy. Clara seems to love water as she runs through the flow of the hose pipe. Have not been able to take her to the beach yet due to her stitches from her spaying, but will test her here as soon as I can.
All in all from what I have seen in the past week Clara will be a welcome addition to any family and with further training a lovely social dog in and out of your home

Lacey is our longest resident. She's been with us since September 2014, brought in as a stray and no-one ever came forward to claim her.

Lacey requires gentle introductions to new dogs, she does prefer male dogs and when if she likes them she'll play tig and tug all day long. As she was a stray we can't be sure how she'd be around kids or cats. She loves walks but doesn't like the rain.

Lacey has been neutered & is fully vaccinated.
