Minstrel at Greyhound Awareness League

A Male Black Lurcher who is age ~2

Good With Children Not Good With Other Pets Not Good With Dogs

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Pet Location: Kennels

Minstrel is a lurcher, who is approximately two years old and is a gorgeous, affectionate and playful boy. In the home environment he is calm and relaxed. He loves cuddles and is fully housetrained.

Minstrel has had some basic training in the past but has also taken to clicker training with enthusiasm! He loves to interact with people, although he can be a little shy around men initially, and responds well to praise and encouragement. Minstrel bonds strongly with people and he does have some mild separation issues but these could be improved on greatly within a home environment.

We don’t think that Minstrel has had the opportunity to learn about things that he may encounter outside of the home environment and as a result finds this stressful and is not comfortable with other dogs. Minstrel would have to be the only dog in the home and he does not like cats.

Minstrel needs a special home with someone understanding who would take the time to help him gain confidence, to settle and enable him to carry on with his training plan; this would be fully supported by a Canine Behaviourist who currently is working with him. This is what she has to say about him;

‘Minstrel is a lovely boy who needs a calm environment to improve his confidence and to continue with his training. He took to agility and clicker training instantly and is improving greatly on his impulse control. Anyone who considers taking him into their home would see that with patience and understanding he has huge potential’.

I can disgrace myself if I am off the lead and decide not tae come back more so if I see a rabbit or bird and decide to play chasies.. I don't do cats so don't even go there! I am a good boy in the car and like to have my staffie seat belt on and do you know I love a bath! I love people and the company and I promise I would be a really good boy for you, I have been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Boss is currently being assessed in foster and is being rehomed through no fault of this owner. He's a lovely chunky boy who will need help getting some of his weight off.

As he is such a big lad, and be a bit boisterous he will need to placed with children over 8 years old, although he is used to being around slightly younger children. He also isn't fully assessed with dogs or cats so at this time will need a forever home without either. We will update Boss's profile in the coming weeks as we learn more about him.

Kaya at Dog Aid Society of Scotland

Good With Children Not Good With Other Pets Good With Dogs

Contact Shelter

Shelter Location: 60 Blackford Avenue Edinburgh EH9 3ER

Kaya is a sweet little small to medium sized crossbreed. Kaya is looking for a new home through no fault of her own.

Don’t be fooled by her age, she is still a very active girl. Kaya’s favourite walks are going into the countryside up the hills where she can be off lead and run around and play. She is very well behaved on her walks. Kaya when at home loves cuddling on the sofa especially when she is getting rubbed in her favourite spot under her neck. When Kaya is outside she is a bit more timid when getting petted. Kaya is very smart and eager to please. She would love to continue to learn new tricks in her new home especially if there is cheese involved! She will always greet you with a waggy tail and in a happy playful manner. She gets very excited when people come to the house for a visit. She may jump up at visitors but does quickly settle.

Kaya is generally ok with other dogs. Off the lead she will approach them slowly and sometimes her hackles may be up. Once she has had a sniff of the dog she is the happy to be around them. If Kaya is on the lead she will bark at other dogs however if you ask her to stay at heel she will continue to walk on. Kaya is looking to be the only pet in the house. Kaya does suffer slight separation anxiety however she is ok to be left for short periods of a time. With further training and positive steps to building up her confidence she can be left for a couple of hours at a time. She is not destructive in any way when left. Kaya is fine to travel in the car however when the car stops at lights or due to traffic she may start whinging until the car moves again. She walks well on the lead and has a very good recall when off lead.

Kaya is looking for an active home where she can go for lovely walks. She is used to having company for the best part of the day. Kaya is a little darling and will make a wonderful addition to the family. Can you offer her a space on your sofa?

Please think carefully before applying for Kaya and think how any changes in your circumstances may affect your ability to care for her. If you would like to be considered to re-home Kaya please click on our website www.dogaidsociety.com and click on Kaya's page then on the green register your interest button and this will take you to our application form. Once you have completed and sent the form you will receive an automatic response to your email address that you have supplied. This means we have successfully received your application. Please note that the Society only re-homes within Scotland.

Medical Needs: The Dog Aid Society’s Old Dog Scheme covers dogs re-homed at 8 years old or above. This means that the Society will cover costs for veterinary care for the dog for the remainder of their life within reason. We do not cover costs for routine treatments such as vaccinations, worming and flea treatment. If the dog requires special dietary food we will contribute 50% of the cost. This will alleviate the worry of the financial implications taking an older dog into your home. Older dogs make great pets! Why not consider an older dog?

Hello, my name is Lexie, I am roughly between 5 and 7 years old.. I am looking for a new home because my daddy isn’t well and he is struggling to care for me. I am abit wary of other dogs, and I have never met a cat so I need to be the only pet in the house hold. I could live with children over 8. I don’t mind being left on my own for a few hours, I like sleeping on daddies chair when he goes out. I am good to bath. I haven’t been in a car much, daddy normally takes me on the bus. I don’t mind travelling, but it does make me shake a little bit. I am a quiet girl and very loving. I enjoy my walks, treats, and I really love cuddling up on the sofa, if you are interested in me please give Fee a call on 07738268665. Lots of love Lexie xxx

Shelter Location: Various Locations

Larry is a super house guest, walks nicely on a lead and is fine with a neutered male SBT he lives with. However he does need work outside with strange dogs so we are looking to place him as an only dog. He isn't keen on cats either.
He is great with kids and has been around kids who visit his fosterer of ages 3 and upwards. He came to us weak around his backend but has got much stronger now his muscles have built up and he is no longer malnourished. He doesn't need a lot of exercise and is happy with shorter walks although can manage further if it were needed on occasion. Larry is in good health and condition

Larry is an older male with some hind limb weakness though has really improved with regular exercise and a home environment.

He is fab with dogs and kids but doesn't seem good with cats. He is a very sweet dog who would make a fab companion. He is living with a neutered older male SBT at the moment

Sadie would definitely prefer a lady owner, who needs to be committed to spending time building her confidence, so she can reach her full potential as a happy and confident companion. She is a very sweet natured girl who has a whole lot of love to give. She can be a little shy and nervous when she meets new people, but when she comes out of her shell she loves nothing more than getting lots of cuddles. She does need to work on her doggy socialisation skills, but would probably prefer being the only pet in her new home anyway -so she can get your full attention! She would like a quiet home without children.
